Singing Bird

Inside Linda Kay Burk's mind must be a fun place, like a birthday party, or a "Rainbow Bubble", the title of one of the songs on her new album "Sunshine Is Love". And she must own a pair of ruby slippers, because she is able to find the childlike part of herself and turn it into a song. In the songs presented here, Linda Kay has provided selections from two different albums - "Sunshine Is Love" which is a children's album, and "Singing The Songs Of My Heart", an album with a more mature, adult contemporary style of music. Both albums are delightful, and exhibit a pure voice, heartfelt themes, and classic good songwriting. The production is excellent, as well. Each song is meticulously arranged with the proper instrumentation to capture its particular magic. Since the playlist on Indie-Music is different than the song order on the albums, I will go in the order presented here. "Rainbow Bubble" is fun and sweet, "Butterfly Land on Me" is a calming instrumental, and "Live in the Moment, Now!" opens with easily lapping ocean waves and mentions joyous dolphins. How's that for light-hearted and relaxing? And the songs offer more than melody and words - there is always a message of hope or a grain of wisdom, too. "Sleepytime Bear" opens with guitar instead of piano, and really shows off Linda Kay's voice, which is perfect for this music. This sweet lullaby will have you drifting off yourself. "Heaven Is All Around Me" is one of many songs with subtle spiritual themes, and features beautiful strings. "Dancing In The Clouds" addresses a repeating topic in Linda Kay's music - dancing. Butterflies come up often, too. Sometimes butterflies even dance in her world! I tell you, it's magic! "Sunshine Is Love" opens with a mandolin and is another example of perfect match of composition, performer, arrangement, and production/recording. "Where Did The Music Go?" is a starkly different song, and perhaps addresses an artistic drought in Linda Kay's past. Thankfully, that does not seem to be a problem now. (Indie-Music.com Review)
